Every great weekend needs a first night that tells you what kind of weekend it’s going to be.
Thursday at Lasertown told us everything.
As the sun dropped behind Johnson Valley and the desert started to cool, STORYTELLERS made their way from camp to the stage. Long drives behind them. Three days of adventure ahead. A first night to kick it all off.
Western States opened the weekend with a set that pulled everyone in close. Easy, warm, and exactly right for a crowd still settling into the desert. You could feel the miles fall away song by song.
Then Ozomatli took the stage.
Within a few songs, nobody was standing still. By the end of the set, the music had spilled off the stage and into the crowd, ending with the most epic conga line.
That’s the kind of thing you can’t plan for. You just make room for it.
Good people. Good music. One conga line we’ll be talking about for a long time.
Thursday was only the beginning.
